Obama’s leftist Federal Election Commission chairwoman Ann M. Ravel has returned and is still attempting to control political speech on social media at none other than the college now known for its censoring of free speech, UC Berkeley!
During an event ironically entitled “Future of Democracy,” Ravel unleashed on so-called “fake news” and political ads on platforms such as Facebook, arguing that the FEC needs to regulate the postings after declaring they’re a huge problem that “influenced elections.” Of course, Ravel provided absolutely no evidence of this.
“We know that there’s a lot of campaigning that’s moved to the internet, whether it’s through fake news or just outright advertising and there is almost no regulation of this, very little,” she said. “And so that the disclosure that we expect as to who is behind campaigns is not going to exist soon”
“Some people are even predicting that by 2020 most of the advertising is going to move from television to the internet, and I think this is a serious issue that requires a lot of discussion,” continued Ravel.
Ravel, who is known for her attempts to censor right-leaning websites, mainly the Drudge Report, proclaiming the site need to be regulated and then attacked those who fought against her censorship as “threatening misogynist responses to me.”
In 2015, the Democrats, still under Ravel’s leadership, attempted to expand the FEC’s regulatory powers to also include social media posts and other forms of political speech on the Internet that are currently not subject to the FEC scrutiny like TV and radio ads are.
Here is her 2015 Keynote Speech calling for censorship at the Brennan Center for Justice in NYC, in front of the NYC Campaign Finance Board, and the Committee for Economic Development.
Since then, Ravel seems to have not forgotten issue and has only doubled down. During her speech at UC Berkeley Ravel openly claimed that companies like Facebook have “no real knowledge” of the people who are making political hosts on the website.
“I think this is a really serious issue that we need to address,” she said.
What Ravel seems to forget is that the top 10 ‘Fake News’ stories of the 2016 election benefited Hillary Clinton. We would also like to point out that the same people who decried ‘Fake news’ were some of the ones who also fought back against the title when video after a video showed their own fake news stories.
So perhaps the reason Ms. Ravel, along with her merry band of leftist, are attempting to silence political speech isn’t to stop ‘Fake news,’ It’s to stop those exposing those who subscribe to the same ideology as she does.
